Public Domain Ghost Stories

I am looking for a collection of ghost stories that are completely

royalty free, including for commercial use. If there are any

restrictions then I do not want them.

Themes: ghosts, paranormal, poltergeists, seances, psychics, haunted

houses, spectres, clairvoyance, spirits, spooks etc.

I do not want a collection of short articles taken from article type

sites. Instead I am looking for longer stories from the public domain

archives. Ideally these are from books that someone has already

scanned in and performed OCR to produce a Word Doc or PDF.

Example lengths:

Either: 10 stories minimum of 1500 words each

Or: 3 stories minimum of 5000 words each

Note the word counts are just guidelines, so you can get an idea of

the minimum I am looking for. If you find a full length novel that is

appropriate, then by all means include that as well.

The stories must be either immediately accessible or readily available

with minimum hassle.

  1. Hello Clickstar,

Books and stories in the public domain are available at Project Gutenberg.

?All Project Gutenberg ebooks are free as in free beer for anyone

living in the United States: You may download all our ebooks for your

personal use for free. Most Project Gutenberg ebooks are also free as

in free speech: You may copy them, give them away and use them in any

    way you like.?

?If an individual work is in the public domain in the United States

and you are located in the United States, we do not claim a right to

prevent you from copying, distributing, performing, displaying or

creating derivative works based on the work as long as all references

    to Project Gutenberg are removed."

?Creating the works from public domain print editions means that no

one owns a United States copyright in these works, so the Foundation

(and you!) can copy and distribute it in the United States without

permission and without paying copyright royalties. Special rules,

set forth in the General Terms of Use part of this license, apply to

copying and distributing Project Gutenberg-tm electronic works to

protect the PROJECT GUTENBERG-tm concept and trademark. Project

Gutenberg is a registered trademark, and may not be used if you

charge for the eBooks, unless you receive specific permission.?
