Is it necessary for all the computers in a home network to have the same operating system? My laptop n desktop have different OS, so I have problem in remote connections… help!! 🙁

Answer

What OSes are you referring to? Windows, Linux, Mac OSX? I’m assuming your problem is sharing files between the systems. Correct?

I can say that you can share files just fine between Win98, WinME, and XP. If you want to share files between Linux and Windows, you’ll have to run Samba/CIFS on Linux so that your Windoze boxes can see the files. I also assume this would apply to OSX.

Hope this helps,
WallyH
