All four of those infectious diseases are caused by viruses. Human
Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is the name of the virus that causes
AIDS. The common cold is usually caused by the rhinovirus (up to
40% of colds), or Coronaviruses (about 20%), but there are more
than 200 viruses that can cause the common cold. Viruses also cause
the flu, there are three types of human influenza viruses, Types A,
B and C and many subtypes and strains of each of those types.
