The Girl Beneath the Lion Byby De Mandiargues

I would like a quick summary or synopsis of the book "The girl Beneath

the Lion" by DE MANDIARGUES, ANDRE PIEYRE translated by HOWARD,

RICHARD. I cannot find any information on the book and/or cliff notes

or a description.

I am trying to decipher the Grove Press cover design that has a

abstract, tightly cropped photograph of a women's head in the lower

right hand corner. Above her is a moon like shaped object.

I don't know if there is a connection to the text in terms of

astrology, or danger, etc.

Best.

  1. Hello ndrew-ga

    Thank-you for your question.

I have been able to track down a couple of descriptions of the story

    from the Abebooks website.

"Story of self awareness, discovery and passion."

"Two young women, Vanina and her friend Juliette, vacation on the

island of Sardinia, bathing in the Mediterranean, lying in the hot sun

on the beaches, and strolling through the marshes and pinelands of the

island. Vanina, cool and determined, meets by chance a handsome young

man of twenty, and instantly decides to give her virginity to him. But

this act will be performed with all the methodical sureness of a

    primitive, pagan rite."

I hope this synopsis/summary is sufficient to help you begin to

decipher the cover of the copy you possess. If you require any

further information on this subject do not hesitate to ask for

clarification and I will do my best to respond swiftly.
